Imai Hisashi Presents
-Imai Hisashi x Yokoyama Kazutoshi in a Meeting about SE-
Translation: Lola & w_b

(I butted in to listen to their discussion because they were having a meeting about the SE they would be using for the BUCK-TICK FEST 2012 ON PARADE.)

Imai: There's the original version right? Though it's kinda long, about four minutes. What do you think? Too long?
Yokoyama: Well, not really, if the last one was four minutes long too....
Imai: So let's make it just short of four minutes....
Yokoyama: Like the one for the previous Fest that struck you right from the start? I'm pretty sure that's the one we played during the opening of the Fest five years ago.
Imai: Huh? You're not talking about when we come on stage are you?
Yokoyama: No. That's B-T's theme. The theme for ON PARADE (SE) is the one that really started things off with a bang.
Imai: Oh! Wait, what? *confused* So I've gotta do that too?
Yokoyama: Uh, yeah? Um. No wait, what?
Imai: What? What are you talking about?
Yokoyama: Huh? I thought we were talking about the SE for ON PARADE....
Imai: Hi-hi-hi! *giggles* Nope, I was talking about B-T's theme!
Both: Ha ha ha haa!
Yokoyama: We weren't at all on the same wavelength there *smiles*.
Imai: I would like to ask that you make a new arrangement of the B-T theme.
Yokoyama: That one? Oh, ok.
Imai: The B-T theme we used at the end of the year was energetic so, I'd like to build from that.
Yokoyama: With an uplifting feel?
Imai: Well yeah but also, something like anything goes. You know, over-the-top. Yeah, that could work, with an orchestra. We've done classical before but I don't want this to have that kind of mellowness, I'd rather it was super lively, you know like when you have a symphonic orchestra.

(As they consulted about the details, Mr. Yokoyama took notes about what sort of impression and atmosphere the song should have.)

Yokoyama: Guess I'll see what I can cook up with this.
Imai: ...and after that we've got the other one.
Yokoyama: So what should we do...about the ON PARADE theme?
Imai: I haven't given it any thought at all yet so...you know now I'm all nervous about it!
Yokoyama: Ha ha ha haa. It's pretty last minute right? But there should be one right?
Imai: Absolutely, there should. I'll have to compose it.... Man, you really freaked me out though you know, talking about that.
Yokoyama: Because it needs to be something that sets the tone for the Fest right *smiles*.
Imai: I told you before though right? My idea for it.
Yokoyama: Yes.
Imai: Ah man, it's just I had such a crazy amount of work to do.
Yokoyama: You did, yeah.

FT: So for today, you haven't decided which SE to discuss or what?
Yokoyama:
Well, I came in thinking we were going to talk about the theme for ON PARADE but...Imai-san told me that's not what he had in mind. But now, I got him all freaked out about it.

FT: Because then you realized you'd have to create the theme for ON PARADE....
Imai:
I had intended to ask Yoko-chan to create a new arrangement of B-T's theme.

FT: You always ask Yokoyama-san to do the arrangements though right?
Imai:
Yeah. Since we were first with Taiyou Records.
Yokoyama: So since the latter half of the 90s I've been prompted to bring new life to B-T's theme.
Imai: Well, it's handy to have it rearranged now and then, if nothing else.

FT: And this is usually how your SE discussions go?
Imai:
Yeah, usually.
Yokoyama: When I get asked to assist with the SE, there's usually two patterns. So like now for arranging B-T's theme, there's already a pattern in it, with an "a" treatment added. 99% of the time I just fiddle a little bit with something Imai-san has already done for the SE. So what was used for Yagami-san's live and the outdoor live was actually Imai-san's work that I just played with a bit.

FT: And that's what you'll do this time for B-T's theme?
Yokoyama: Yes.

FT: And the reason you take notes is just so that afterward, even if you get drunk, you'll be ok because you have your notes about the conversation to fall back on.
Yokoyama:
Yeah, if I didn't take notes, I'd be screwed.
Imai: It is better to take notes. Even if at times it's just shorthand *smiles*.

FT: Thank you very much for your time. Please, go back to your work.

(Afterwards, they still had a lot to discuss and so continued on until at the very end, feeling good and drunk from vodka they returned home. So, what did everyone think about the SE for ON PARADE?)
